Trade on real market data. Leave a record you can prove.
Built for learners and Student-Managed Investment Funds (SMIFs): collaborative paper trading on real market data, with real discipline.
A market-synced paper-trading environment for a verifiable track record: shareable and auditable.
What you get with DogBone Capital
Real market data
Trade against live, real market prices, not a canned classroom simulator.
Guardrails on every order
Pre-trade risk checks and a logged thesis run before anything can fill.
A record you can share
A verifiable track record built from every trade, thesis, and result.
Why not a broker or a spreadsheet?
A brokerage account, a classroom simulator, or a shared spreadsheet will let you place a trade. None of them do justice to what a Student-Managed Investment Fund actually needs: a mandate, a guardrail, and a reason.
| Feature | DogBone Capital | A broker or a spreadsheet |
|---|---|---|
| Collaboration | Shared books, roles, and revocable access. | One login, no team structure. |
| Mandates & IPS | A declared investment policy statement, enforced. | No policy to enforce. |
| Guardrails | Pre-trade risk checks run before an order can fill. | No pre-trade risk checks. |
| Thesis before trade | Every order requires a logged rationale first. | No record of why a trade was made. |
| Auditable history | Every decision timestamped and logged. | Whatever you remembered to write down. |
Can't people just fake or reset their history?
A track record is only worth something if it can't be gamed. Three rules keep it honest.
- Theses are logged before the trade, not after. The timestamp comes first.
- Resets happen only through a sanctioned process and stay visible in the record. Never a silent erase.
- One account per person. Duplicate accounts undermine the audit trail for everyone.
How it works
- Step 1
Join
Sign up in minutes. The placement quiz helps place you on a fund that fits how you think about risk; it isn't a gate.
- Step 2
Trade with guardrails
Every order runs through pre-trade risk checks and requires a logged thesis before it fills.
- Step 3
Share your verified record
Your trades, theses, and results build a record you control and can show when it matters.
Questions
What do I actually get?
A trading record you can stand behind: every position backed by a logged thesis, research published under your name, and a profile where you decide exactly what the world sees.
What does it cost, and who pays?
Individual accounts and club or semester plans are priced separately. We would rather quote you the real number than publish an invented one, so ask your club lead or reach out for current plans.
Who sees my record?
You do, until you say otherwise. Everything is private by default; you choose what goes public, module by module. Data export and account deletion are self-service in Settings.
For faculty and administrators: what oversight do we get?
Written mandates the platform actually enforces, pre-trade guardrails that block rather than warn, an audit trail on every allocation decision, and a clean handoff when your cohort turns over.
Are the performance numbers real?
They are computed, never typed. Returns, Sharpe, and drawdown come from the same trade and equity data every fund runs on, and you can watch them live on Fund Performance.
What happens when I graduate?
You keep it. The record is yours, not the club's, and it stays portable after you leave.
How hard is it to start?
Minutes. A short placement quiz suggests a fund that fits how you think about risk. It is a compass, not a gate.
For hiring managers: can I actually screen with this?
Not as a dedicated product yet. What exists today is real: a public team page and published research from real members. Structured, consented access for hiring teams is on the roadmap, and we will not claim it before it ships.
